EVEN as the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) is touted to be one of the most benevolent Health care Schemes of Govt. of India, of late, it is in total chaos, laments Pramod Chandra Patnaik, a retired IAS officer and Executive Committee member of All India CGHS Beneficiaries’ Association of India and member of State CGHS Advisory Committee, Odisha.

- PBD BUREAU

Notably, CGHS caters to all health care needs of all All-India Service officers, all Govt. of India employees (except Defence & Railways), all MPs both sitting and retired, all High Court Judges, both sitting and retired, all Supreme Court Judges, all Union Ministers etc.

At present beneficiaries enrolled under CGHS are about 39,00,000 in India. In Odisha, their number is around 30,000 being treated under 5 Wellness Centres; 3 in Bhubaneswar, 01 in Cuttack and another 01 in Berhampur. Sambalpur is under consideration of the Government.
