IN THE 51ST METRO MANILA FILM FESTIVAL ENTRY “Call Me Mother,” Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre reunite in a comedy-drama that explores a mother or a mother figure’s unconditional love.
Vice (right) portrays Twinkle, a former queen maker turned adoptive, loving queer mother to Angelo, while Nadine plays Mara, Angelo's biological mom and a former pageant prodigy-turned-high fashion model.
During a media huddle, the two shared how the film redefines motherhood and expressed appreciation for mothers who embrace both its pains and joys.
“This movie has explained to me that motherhood is beyond gender. It’s beyond bearing a child and giving birth to a child. Mas malawak, mas malalim pa ang ibig sabihin ng pagiging nanay pala,” Vice told The STAR.
The popular actor-comedian praised mothers around the world for their strength, their willingness to take on the responsibility of being one, and the unwavering love with which they fulfill the obligations of motherhood.
“No woman is ever truly ready for motherhood,” declared Nadine. “I have a lot of friends who said they want to be mothers. ‘Pag nandiyan na, ‘Ah, ganito pala yun.’ And that’s OK. That’s not a problem.”
According to Nadine, these kinds of situations serve as lessons in personal growth and learning.
Helmed by award-winning filmmaker Jun Robles Lana, the movie delves into the complexities of unwavering love, commitment and sacrifice throughout motherhood, the synopsis reads.
