TD Romina threatens to enter PAR today

Tropical cyclone wind signal No. 1 was hoisted yesterday in the southern portion of Palawan, particularly Balabac and Kalayaan Islands amid the threat of Tropical Depression Romina, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In the 5 p.m. cyclone bulletin issued by PAGASA, Romina continued to move toward the southern Kalayaan islands. The state weather bureau said the center of the tropical depression was located over the coastal waters of Rurok Island in Kalayaan, outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), and was moving northward at 35 kilometers per hour with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

Romina is the 18th tropical cyclone to affect the Philippines this year.
