Thousands are marching again today to EDSA to press their call for justice and accountability in the flood control corruption scandal.
Thousands are marching again today to EDSA to press their call for justice and accountability in the flood control corruption scandal. Dubbed the “Second Trillion Peso March,” it is a broad and diverse gathering of people from all walks of life, which includes the country’s prominent moral leaders, such as Pablo Virgilio Cardinal David, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP); various other religious groups, Catholic schools, alongside social movements like Tindig Pilipinas, Akbayan Party, Simbahan at Komunidad Laban sa Korapsyon (SIKLAB), Magdalo, Mamamayang Liberal, Youth Against Kurakot (YAK) and many more.
Many of the country’s largest labor organizations will also help spearhead the event, including the Nagkaisa Labor Coalition, which encompasses members like the Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisang Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO), Partido Manggagawa (PM), the Federation of Free Workers (FFW) and several more. Participating as well is the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP). The trade unionists will mark the birth date of “The Great Plebeian” Andres Bonifacio and emphasize how corruption worsens the workers’ economic struggles. They will also reiterate their calls for strengthened labor rights and increased social protections.
