Quiboloy extradition not political — lawmaker

Amid criticisms from supporters that the possible extradition of alleged child rapist Apollo Quiboloy to the United States is politically motivated, a House leader stressed that sex trafficking is a "transnational crime that demands international cooperation" and is therefore devoid of politics.

"This is not a political issue. This is not about who is the defendant. If the alleged infraction carries the weight as heavy as sex trafficking, then no territory should be sacred, and no territory should be protected as well," House Deputy Speaker and Zambales 1st district Rep. Jay Khonghun said.

Khonghun cited the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, or Palermo Convention, ratified by the Philippines in 2002, which obliges states to prosecute offenders and protect victims.
