Public warned vs giving away biometric data

The public has been warned against giving away personal and biometric data following reports that people in Bulacan are having their iris scanned in exchange for cryptocurrencies.
The National Privacy Commission (NPC) said that biometric data like iris scan is considered a sensitive personal information.
Misuse or theft of data can lead to serious privacy and security risks, including identity theft and fraud, the NPC said, citing the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
