On the surface, Team Philippines’ sixth overall standing in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games didn’t look good.

But taking a deep dive and stripping away the non-Olympic sports played in the Dec. 9 to 20 SEAG in Thailand, the numbers would paint a rosier picture, one showing the country actually performing rather strongly.
The Philippine Sports Commission, citing a report from the Vietnamese online publication vnexpress.net, emphasized that of the 50 gold medals harvested by Team Philippines in the recent meet, 70.37 percent came from sports that are part of the 2028 Olympics’ program.
