Next Balesin project on hold, Alphaland open to partners

Alphaland Corp. is open to bringing in partners for the development of the next Balesin Island, a resort project that has been shelved due to its huge capital requirement.
In an interview, Alphaland president Dennis Valdes told The STAR that the development of the Balesin International Gateway (BIG) in the nearby Patnanungan Island has been put on hold by the company at the moment.
Valdes said that the 750-hectare BIG was a project the late tycoon Roberto V. Ongpin (RVO).
The project, he said, is expected to require more than the P10 billion investment for the 500-hectare Balesin Island resort.
"That island is 23 nautical miles from Balesin. So it's near, but not so near. In boating terms, it's about 45 minutes to an hour away. RVO's vision was to look at that Balesin International Gateway and make it another Balesin," he said.
