J.Lo proves musical mettle in 'Kiss of the Spider Woman'
The Philippine Star
|October 24, 2025
Diego Luna is an easy fit. After all, if you were casting the part of the revolutionary Valentin Arregui in "Kiss of the Spider Woman," you would want to have the finest Latino actor around.
That is what Luna is these days. The star of "Andor," "Narcos: Mexico" and "Y Tu Mama Tambien" is not only an impressive actor, he is also handsome, sexy and cuts quite a figure on the dance floor.
Luna is all those in "Kiss of the Spider Woman." He shines bright as Valentin. He is the political prisoner made to share a prison cell with a gay window dresser, who is tasked with extracting information about the brewing uprising against the military dictatorship from him.
As Valentin, Luna is fiery and cynical, then accepting with a kind of tenderness that is so soft but all-encompassing.
That window dresser is Luis Molina. He is played by Tonatiuh. Not only a strange name, we also have never seen him before. This must be his first major role and what a debut it is. The role gave William Hurt a Best Actor Oscar in the non-musical version some years ago. It can do the same for Tonatiuh whose expressive features can project myriad emotions within just a few seconds. Think carefree to tragic and so much else in between.
