Hunger rises in Q3 – SWS

After declining sharply in the second quarter, Filipinos claiming to have experienced involuntary hunger in the past three months have increased, a survey conducted by Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.
From 16.1 percent in June, the hunger rate rose to 22 percent in the third quarter of 2025, based on the Sept. 24 to 30 survey conducted by SWS.
In reaction, Malacañang blamed the recent calamities for the rise in involuntary hunger figure.
As defined by the SWS, involuntary hunger is being hungry and having nothing to eat at least once in the past three months.
Involuntary hunger increased across areas, except among respondents in the Visayas where it dropped from 21.7 percent in June to 17.7 percent in September.
