Globe steps up fight vs spam, scam messages

Telecommunications company Globe Telecom has renewed its call to customers to be vigilant against unwanted messages they receive from unknown numbers via overthe-top (OTT) media services or chat apps, as it gave assurance it was taking action against mobile numbers using its network to send such messages.

Globe said it was aware of rising cases in the wake of stricter SMS regulation through the SIM Registration Act.

Anton Reynaldo Bonifacio, Globe’s chief information security officer said that fraudsters are using OTT services to evade a telco network’s spam filters, with many using foreign numbers.
