Firms urged to adopt flexible work schemes

With the rehabilitation of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) set to start next month, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is urging companies to adopt work-from-home and other flexible work schemes to give their employees options to avoid the expected traffic gridlock that will be caused by the road upgrade.

Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma noted that the Telecommuting Act, which provides for the adoption of work-from-home (WFH) arrangements, has been tested and proven effective.

He said in a radio interview yesterday that these alternative work schemes have been proven advantageous for both workers and businesses during the pandemic.

Laguesma said companies just need to improve the system to allow "minimal damage" and make it more beneficial to both employers and workers.

The primary consideration, he said, is to prevent disruption in company operations and damage to workers.
