A farmers' group yesterday urged the Department of Agriculture (DA) to look into the delayed release of fertilizer subsidies, citing reports of possible "ghost deliveries" in several provinces.

The Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) said farmers in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley and the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) region have yet to receive inputs that should have been distributed in June at the start of planting.

"Are there 'ghost deliveries' of fertilizer subsidies in this situation?" SINAG chair Rosendo So said during a hearing Wednesday by the Senate committee on agriculture, food, and agrarian reform.
