Data centers urged to cut power consumption

Energy management and digital automation firm Schneider Electric is urging Philippine data centers to use the "green approach" as part of smart and sustainable solutions to lessen energy consumption.

Schneider Electric business development and marketing director Carlos Leviste said data centers have become integral to the country's rapidly growing internet economy.

"The need to transition to sustainable operations has become more pronounced," Leviste said.

According to Leviste, data centers have previously utilized fuel to run its operations, marking the facilities as "energyintensive." Schneider Electric said data centers should shift to electricity and digital, specifically energy management systems and digital tools, which promote sustainability and operational efficiency.

"Data centers, equipped with smarter operations, can optimize costs, speed and capital to prepare them for future technological integrations and risk mitigation," the firm said.
