Soft domestic demand and weaker business confidence are expected to drag the economic growth of the Philippines in 2025 and 2026.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) expects economic growth to fall slightly below government targets in 2025 and 2026, as moderating demand and weaker business confidence continue to weigh on the outlook.
The softer growth path gave monetary authorities room to further ease policy, with the Monetary Board cutting benchmark rates by 25 basis points at its Oct. 9 meeting.
Based on the highlights of the Monetary Board discussion, high-frequency indicators point to moderating domestic demand, with gross domestic product (GDP) seen “to fall slightly below the government's growth targets for 2025 and 2026, before rising to within target by 2027.”
