Meta tips Scale with £11bn deal to poach savvy data-labellers

Last year Alexandr Wang, co-founder and chief executive of data labelling firm Scale AI, posted on X that he had been “travelling like crazy”.
His former flatmate, OpenAI's Sam Altman, was quick to reply: “Truly no one flies in and out to more parties than you, it looks like a full-time job.”
Wang’s uncanny ability to be in the right room at the right time is just one reason that Scale AI has landed a $15bn (£11bn) deal with Meta. The social media giant will take a 49% stake in Scale AI, which values the startup at $28bn and places Wang, 28, in a top position inside Meta.
