Digestive health deeply connected to immunity, mental well-being, say docs

Digestive health plays a critical role in maintaining overall well-being, according to doctors. They say digestive health has a close connection with the immune system, mental health and energy levels.

Speaking to the news agency, the doctors said that a balanced diet, proper hydration and limiting processed foods are essential for preserving gut health and promoting a healthier lifestyle.

Dr Tariq Ahmad, a gastroenterologist based in south Kashmir, said gut health goes beyond digestion and plays a pivotal role in immune function and emotional stability.

“Over 70% of the immune system resides in the gut, making it a key player in defending the body against infections,” he said.

He elaborated, “The gut is home to trillions of microorganisms that are essential for digesting food, producing vitamins, and protecting against pathogens. A disrupted gut microbiome can impair immunity, cause

fatigue, and even affect mood and mental clarity.”
