In a historic event, legendary winemaker Madame May-Eliane de Lencquesaing—affectionately known as 'Lady May'—struck the first limited-edition gold medallion commemorating 100 years of Pinotage, South Africa's signature red wine.
Born in 1925 into one of Bordeaux's most esteemed wine families, de Lencquesaing is a centenarian pioneer who received France's highest honor, the Officer of the Legion of Honour.
Drawn by South Africa’s promise, she relocated in 2003 to establish Glenelly Estate in Stellenbosch. At 78, she launched a new chapter in winemaking and went on to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the International Wine Challenge (IWC) in 2017.
