Towering Strong Against Winds And Quakes
The New Indian Express
|April 09, 2025
On March 28, 2025, a still under-construction building intended for the State Audit Office collapsed in Bangkok, Thailand, following a major earthquake that originated in Myanmar, resulting in over 30 casualties.

As populations explode and cities shrink, the need to build higher becomes the immediate solution.
As of 2024, there are over 7,000 skyscrapers over 150 meters tall across the globe, and a major factor determining their construction is their resistance to natural phenomena, predominantly earthquakes and strong winds, and the calamity in Thailand brings this fact back into focus.
Standing firm
The world's tallest buildings are marvels of modern engineering, pushing the limits of design, technology, and construction. With increasing urbanization and the demand for vertical living and working spaces, skyscrapers must be built to withstand natural forces, while providing safety and stability for their inhabitants.
