SC extends stay over ED probe in Tasmac case

THE Supreme Court on Tuesday extended its order restraining the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from taking any coercive action against the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac) in the alleged 21,000 crore scam till a three-judge bench rules on the review pleas challenging certain provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Assailing the ED's actions in the case, a bench of Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran asked whether the central agency's action is tantamount to encroaching upon the state's investigative powers.
