SC bins plea to install Karuna statue, says TN can't use public money to glorify leaders

THE Supreme Court on Monday ruled that Tamil Nadu should not use public money for glorification of former leaders and rejected the state government's plea to allow it to erect the statue of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in Tirunelveli district.

"It is not permitted. Why are you using public funds for glorifying your former leaders," asked a two-judge bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Prashant Kumar Mishra.
