Infra bond sales may touch high of ₹1.3L cr in '24

BONDS issuances by banks are expected to touch a new high of ₹1.2-1.3 trillion (1.2-1.3 lakh cr) this fiscal, surpassing the earlier peak of 1.1 trillion in FY23.

The issuances will be led by public sector banks which are expected to command a lion's share of 82-85% and dominated by infrastructure bonds.
Banks are resorting to bond issuances as deposit growth has for long been lagging credit growth, even as the share of debt in total liabilities remains below the pre-Covid levels.
