The Uttarakhand government is contemplating amendments to certain provisions of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which came into effect in the state in January this year.
According to some sources, various political parties and organisations have expressed concerns about religious freedom and personal autonomy amid the enactment of UCC in the state. Critics argue that the UCC infringes on private rights. The mandatory registration of live-in relationships has drawn sharp opposition.
