Calls for laws and awareness drives to combat online harassments
RAISING concern over the growing digital threats faced by girls, Chief Justice of India BR Gavai on Saturday called for specialised laws and targeted training for law enforcers and policymakers to combat online harassment, cyberbullying, stalking, and deepfake abuse. Speaking at the National Annual Stakeholders Consultation on "Safeguarding the Girl Child: Towards a Safer and Enabling Environment for Her in India," Chief Justice Gavai said: "The protection of the girl child must be a core priority of digital governance. Laws dealing with online sexual exploitation, digital trafficking, and cyber harassment must be paired with effective enforcement, education and awareness initiatives."
