FROM the streets of early 20th-century America to lifesaving inventions, Garrett Augustus Morgan's ingenuity transformed everyday safety for the world.
Garrett Morgan was more than just an inventor; he was a visionary whose innovations continue to shape our daily lives. Born on March 4, 1877, in Paris, Kentucky, USA, to former slaves, Morgan faced racial barriers that might have stifled lesser talents. Yet his curiosity and determination propelled him into a life of invention and entrepreneurship. He began his career as a sewing-machine mechanic, but his inventive mind could not be contained to small repairs. He was driven by a desire to solve practical problems and to make the world safer and more efficient for everyone.
