CHENNAI airport closed down its operations for 16 hours from Saturday noon till Sunday 4 am due to adverse weather conditions caused by Cyclone Fengal that resulted in incessant rains and gusty winds.

- The ground floor of Chromepet GH and the out-patient wing of GH for Women and Children in Egmore flooded after rain on Saturday
Flight operations in other airports of Tamil Nadu were also affected. Hundreds of passengers were stranded at Chennai airport because of the cancellation of flights.
Official sources said the two runways and the taxiway were inundated and as many as 55 flights, both domestic and international, were cancelled and 19 others were diverted. Earlier in the day, when the airport was operational, at least 12 flights were delayed.
