To restore pond, Pondy villagers leave no stone unturned

ENVIRONMENTALIST D Anandan of the Dhanasundarambal Charitable Foundation is leading the way in restoring a discarded pond, believed to be over a thousand years old, in Pooranangkuppam village, Puducherry with the support of villagers, environmental activists, NGOs, and private organisations, for improving groundwater level in the coastal area.

The pond had disappeared due to encroachment and neglect. K Sundararasu, a 78-year-old resident of Pooranangkuppam, said, "The pond is more than a thousand years old. Many generations used its water for drinking and agricultural farming. But later, it vanished due to encroachment and non-usage."
