Floral tributes paid to Anjalai Ammal on her birth anniversary

DISTRICT Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar, on behalf of the state government, paid floral tributes to the statue of freedom fighter M Anjalai Ammal at Gandhi Park in Cuddalore on Sunday, marking her birth anniversary.
Addressing the gathering, the collector said, "Anjalai Ammal was born in 1890 in Cuddalore Old Town to Ammakkanu and Muthumani. She began her public life in 1921 by participating in Mahatma Gandhi's Non-Cooperation Movement. She was sentenced to one year in prison for taking part in the protest to remove Neelan's statue in Chennai. She also participated in the Salt Satyagraha in Cuddalore, for which she was impr
