The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday said that in collaboration with Gujarat Police, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, it has successfully brought back the wanted fugitive economic offender Harshit Babulal Jain from the UAE.
In an official statement, the CBI said Jain was wanted by Gujarat Police in a case of tax evasion, illegal gambling and money laundering. He had earlier got the Red Corner Notice (RCN) published against Jain through Interpol on August 9, 2023, at the request of Gujarat Police. "Jain was deported from the UAE and was handed over to Gujarat Police on Friday at Ahmedabad International Airport," the agency said.
Harshit Jain is the mastermind behind Gujarat's biggest cricket betting scam, worth over ₹2,300 crore. Jain, who fled to Dubai after a police raid in March 2023, was deported to Ahmedabad after a Red Corner Notice was issued through Interpol. His arrest is the latest breakthrough in a multi-layered digital betting racket linked to India's most notorious bookie, Saurabh Chandrakar, aka Mahadev Bookie.
