FROM THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS TO TECHNOLOGICAL REVOLUTION

- HRITHIK KIRAN BAGADE

2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the development of quantum mechanics, and the United Nations has designated it as the "International Year of Quantum Science and Technology". This celebration recognizes the significant advancements and impact of quantum mechanics on science, technology, and our understanding of the universe.

Quantum mechanics is a branch of physics that deals with the behavior of matter and light at the atomic and subatomic levels. It explains the properties of atoms and molecules, including their fundamental particles like electrons, protons, and neutrons. Quantum mechanics also addresses phenomena like quantum entanglement, superposition, and tunneling. Accordingly, quantum mechanics, long the bedrock of modern physics, continues to evolve in remarkable ways. As we navigate through this year, this field has not only deepened our understanding of the fundamental nature of reality, but also driven a technological revolution. From quantum computing and sensors to philosophical reinterpretations of reality, quantum mechanics is experiencing a renaissance, shaped by both scientific breakthroughs and national initiatives.
