PM may speak on Sindoor in RS after return

THE Business Advisory Committee of the Rajya Sabha has cleared the decks for a debate on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, likely to begin next Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to intervene during the debate and outline the operation's success. He would have returned from the UK and the Maldives by then.

After four postponements, the Business Advisory Committee, which met on Wednesday, decided to have a 16-hour discussion over two days on the terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The government, however, will not bring any resolution. A source indicated that Modi may also address the Lok Sabha on the subject.

The BAC meeting had been deferred for several reasons, including developments that ended in the dramatic resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar.

The government has turned down the Opposition's demand for a farewell speech by former vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar, sources said. At the same time, the government agreed to the Opposition's demand that seven retiring MPs be allowed to make farewell speeches.
