CM says movie fuelled anger against Aurangzeb, action will be taken over attacks on police
MAHARASHTRA Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday claimed that the violence in Nagpur, triggered by protests against Aurangzeb's tomb, was premeditated. He attributed the heightened emotions to the release of the movie 'Chhaava', which depicted the brutal atrocities committed by Aurangzeb against Sambhaji Maharaj.
The violence on Monday night left 33 police personnel, including three DCP-level officers, and five civilians injured. More than 50 people were taken into custody and curfew was imposed in parts of Nagpur after the violence. "Five FIRs have been registered in connection with the violence," Nagpur police commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal said.
