Gates of Attari border shut, people stranded

UNCERTAINTY prevailed at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari as gates were shut on Thursday after the deadline for Pakistani nationals to return to their country lapsed on Wednesday.
Many who came to the post from various states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Delhi, are waiting to cross. No Indian national could return from the other side, either, sources said.
This happened despite the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) amending its earlier directive permitting Pakistani nationals to leave India via the ICP at Attari until further notice. The original order was to close the border on May 1.
