Corpn to desilt buckle canal before monsoon

THOOTHUKUDI corporation is set to desilt the Buckle Canal for six kilometres to improve floodwater drainage into the sea during the northeast monsoon, Mayor N P Jegan Periyasamy announced during a public grievance redressal meeting at the West Zone office on Wednesday.
The mayor said waterlogging was severe last year in wards 16, 17 and 18, but the causes of stagnation have since been addressed. Additionally, the Kokur Kanmoi in the area is being developed to harness rainwater runoff. As the monsoon approaches, the corporation is focusing on clearing the Buckle Canal, the main channel
