Civic issues dominate Nellai corporation council meeting

DURING the corporation council meeting held in Tirunelveli on Thursday, councillors raised various issues, including not opening the Palayamkottai new market, drinking water shortage, damaged roads and the incomplete underground sewage channel works.

Mayor G Ramakrishnan presided over the session, while Commissioner Dr N O Sukhaputra responded to the queries.

Responding to Palayamkottai zone M Francis's query on the status of installing water metering equipment at a cost of ₹46 crore, the commissioner said, "Water meters have been installed at 57 of the planned 102 locations, and works are under way at the remaining sites."

On the issue of the unopened Palayamkottai market, Dr Sukhaputra said the shop allocation works at both Palayamkottai and Gandhi markets is nearing completion.
