Anti-sacrilege Bill tabled in Punjab Assembly; guilty may get life imprisonment

The Punjab government tabled a new and more stringent bill in the Assembly on Monday aimed at tackling acts of sacrilege within the state.
The proposed legislation includes penalties of up to life imprisonment and fines of up to ₹10 lakh for individuals found guilty of desecrating any religious scripture. Also, police officers of the DSP rank and above will be authorized to investigate such cases.
