|August 31, 2025
WITH the Samayapuram tollgate-Mannarpuram stretch of the Tiruchy-Chennai national highway and the Manapparai stretch of the Tiruchy-Madurai national highway identified as among the 50 accident hotspots in the state, the health department on Friday commenced a campaign to provide hands-on training for college students and others in handling emergencies.
Health and police records reveal that Tiruchy now reports over 850 accident-related cases every month, compared to 650-750 last year. The Palpannai area alone accounts for around 350 cases monthly, while the Manapparai stretch records an average of 150. Officials said the figures highlight mounting pressure on highways, particularly along the Tiruchy-Chennai and Tiruchy-Madurai corridors.
