Corp council skips discussing Woraiyur contamination woes

DEFYING expectations of the water contamination scare in Woraiyur dominating the session, the corporation council meeting for April convened on Tuesday, save for commending the civic body's response to the situation, largely focused on issues like labour shortage and even ensuring potable water supply for the rest of summer.

The discussion session began with Mayor Mu Anbalagan pointing to the corporation's efforts to manage the stray dog population. Of the estimated 43,767 stray dogs in the city, 22,367 have been sterilised so far, he said. He also informed that ongoing anti-rabies vaccination drive aims to vaccinate around 5,000 dogs each month.

Refraining from a detailed discussion on the water contamination scare in Woraiyur, where four people died and several others were hospitalised a few days ago allegedly after consuming the water supplied by the corporation, the councillors instead focused on water management during peak summer.
