A local BJP leader was allegedly shot dead by unidentified miscreants in broad daylight near Patharpalli village within Kabisuryanagar police limits in Ganjam district on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as 53-year-old Laxminarayan Paikray of Athagarhpatana village. Police said Paikray was a history sheeter and had multiple criminal cases pending against him.

According to sources, Paikray was returning to Athagarhpatana on his motorcycle around 7 am when unidentified miscreants came out of a chicken farm near Patharpalli and opened fire. Paikray took a few bullets in the head and fell off the bike.
