Rima Kallingal's 'Neythe' puts spotlight on life of weavers

WITH only a day left for the conclusion of the 15th edition of International Theatre Festival of Kerala, Neythe-The Art of Weaving, created by Mamangam Dance Company and directed by award-winning actor Rima Kallingal, made an impressive performance through body movement, light and soothing music.

Through the brilliance of dance and visual tapestry, Neythe takes spectators to the world of traditional hand weaving. According to Rima, "the dance drama was inspired by the life and work of traditional weavers, especially about Chennamangalam village and the weaving community there. In the devastating flood of 2018, the weavers of Chennamangalam lost everything that made their life. However, their passion for weaving made them stronger and they made a comeback that received recognition globally. Neythe portrays the passion with which the threads are made and woven into a cloth and how the artisans' lives are interwoven into it."
