Strict instructions issued to control spread of virus | Public gatherings strictly prohibited

- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @Palakkad

In light of the confirmed Nipah virus case in Palakkad district, the district collector has issued strict instructions to ensure maximum vigil and control the spread of the virus.

All healthcare centres in the district have been directed to closely monitor Nipah-like symptoms and report suspected cases immediately. A total of 91 people have been included in the primary contact list, and monitoring is ongoing.

Special restrictions have been imposed in the declared containment zones. Public gatherings are strictly prohibited in these areas. Shops and business establishments are allowed to operate only from 8 am to 6 pm. However, medical stores are exempt from this restriction.

Educational institutions, including tuition centres, anganwadis, and madrasas, must remain closed. Online classes may continue wherever possible.

Entry of outsiders into containment zones is strictly restricted. Residents must inform local health officials or the nearest police station in advance if they are conducting functions such as weddings or funerals.

People with serious health conditions, including those undergoing dialysis or cancer treatment, are allowed to leave the containment zones for essential hospital visits. Only health workers and police officers are permitted to enter the containment zones, and they must strictly follow safety protocols.

A LINGUISTIC GAME OF DEFINITIONS

OFTENTIMES definitions can limit you, imposing unnecessary constraints, enclosing things within the four corners of a narrow, arbitrary boundary that you set for yourself. Other times, they provide no real meaning as the thing defined may not mean anything by itself.
