KMC suffers ₹10k cr revenue loss due to delayed elections

KAKINADA Municipal Corporation (KMC) has conducted council elections only twice in the last 17 years.
The corporation was upgraded in 2005, with elections held the same year. The council's tenure ended in 2010, and after a seven-year gap, fresh elections took place on 16 September 2017.
However, the council's term expired on 13 September 2022, and no elections have been conducted since due to delays in merging surrounding villages into Kakinada Smart City. This delay has led to an estimated annual revenue loss of ₹10,000 crore.
