Stray dogs dumped on Shivamogga city outskirts, worsening menace

WITH ongoing nationwide discussion over immediate removal and shifting of stray dogs permanently to shelters in Delhi region, residents of Shivamogga have urged the city corporation to take quick measures to resolve the stray dog menace in the city, which has been persisting for many years.

However, city corporation authorities have said that they are facing a new challenge, wherein stray dogs in rural and village limits are brought and left on the city's outskirts areas, leading to a sudden rise in the number of stray dogs in the city.

Dr Rekha S T, Veterinary Officer at City Corporation told TNIE that the city corporation is facing a new challenge wherein people are bringing stray dogs from rural and village limits to urban areas and leaving them at the city outskirts like Malavagoppa, Vidya Nagar, Sominakoppa, Mandli, Gurupura and others.
