Nowhere Do Journalists Have Press Freedom Like in India

Dr Basava Marulasidda Swamiji of the Basava Tatva Peeta said that nowhere in the world can one witness the same degree of press freedom as in India, where journalists are endowed with the constitutional authority to scrutinise political leaders and the government whenever they falter.

While honouring distinguished achievers during Chikkamagaluru Taluk Journalism Day at Basava Mandira on Saturday, the seer remarked that the practice of obtaining government approval prior to publication of news reports continues to persist in various countries today.

The swamiji insisted that it is essential for journalists to assume the responsibility of thoroughly investigating authenticity of news before publication, asserting that the profession of journalism demands both creativity and integrity from its practitioners.
