IAF's Kiran Reaches City for Display at Freedom Park

The decommissioned HAL HJT-16 Kiran, an Indian Air Force pilot training aircraft, arrived in the city on Monday. Sanctioned by the Ministry of Defence, the aircraft will be installed at Freedom Park.
Commonly known as 'Kiran', the indigenous two-seat intermediate jet trainer was developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
It has been derived from an IAF requirement for an intermediate jet trainer capable of preparing Indian pilots for more complex and high-performance supersonic jets.
The aircraft has a largely conventional design, largely unswept, low-mounted monoplane wings, a single tail arrangement and tricycle landing gear.
The cockpit catered to an instructor and a trainee pilot, which offered side-by-side seating with good visibility around the front of the plane.
