LABOUR Minister Santosh S Lad said true national development is possible only when money reaches the hands of the poor.
He called for effective implementation of welfare schemes meant for the underprivileged.
Speaking after inaugurating a temporary housing complex for construction workers and launching a smart card distribution drive for unorganised workers at Lagan Kalyana Mandira here on Monday, Lad highlighted several welfare initiatives undertaken by the state. The programme was organised jointly by the Labour Department and several government departments.
He said Karnataka has passed a pioneering gig workers' bill, aimed at benefiting more than 5 lakh gig economy workers employed with platforms such as Amazon, Swiggy, Zomato and Blinkit. The law facilitates welfare funding through a 1-5% cess on delivery rates and additional government contributions.
