A day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called for a united front in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav declared himself the chief ministerial candidate for the opposition's Mahagathbandhan, or grand alliance, in the state.

Addressing the 'Musahar-Bhuiya Maharally' in the state capital, Tejashwi said that people from economically backward sections would benefit from the 'Mai-Behan Samman Yojna' if the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan was voted to power.

Tejashwi promised to provide land for constructing pucca houses and provide jobs for the poor. "If I become the chief minister, I will ensure that the promises made to you are fulfilled. I may be younger than Nitish Kumar, but I stand by my words," he said in an apparent jab at the CM.
