The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved two projects under the Ministry of Railways at a total cost of Rs 6,405 crore.

Among them, one is the doubling of the Ballari-Chikjajur railway line which passes through Chitradurga city.

The 185-km railway line traverses through Ballari and Chitradurga districts of Karnataka and Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. Chitradurga MP Govind M Karjol, who welcomed the decision of the Prime Minister, said that the Chikjajur to Ballari direct railway line will be doubled at a cost of Rs 3,342 crore and will be a major line connecting the East coast with the West coast. He said that there is a need of 174 hectares of land which will be acquired and work for the same will be expedited.
