SHORTAGE of grants to the Department of Food and Civil Supplies has resulted in 'Anna Bhagya' beneficiaries being deprived of Rs 170 since October 2024, which they were supposed to receive in lieu of 5 kg of rice.
As per one of the five guarantees implemented by the Congress government, 10 kg of rice was announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah before the 2023 state assembly polls, but the government couldn't get additional 5 kg of rice that had to be distributed to the BPL card holders. The government then decided to give cash of Rs 34 per kg of rice to all the card holders.
Susheelamma, a BPL beneficiary from Uppuneeru Bhavi area of Chitradurga city said, "I have not received my 'Anna Bhagya' financial benefit for 5 kg of rice since October 2024. The government should give the money as assured, immediately". She also said that the state government which had assured Rs 34 per kg for 5 kg gave it promptly till September 2024.
Further, she also said that Rs 2,000 has not been deposited to her account under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme for the last two months.
