Inaugurating the two-day Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) workshop here, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that demographic changes in the border areas have been occurring as part of a deliberate design.

Noting that the demographic trend in the border areas directly impacts the security of the country, Shah said, "It should not be assumed that this is happening due to geographical conditions; rather, it is occurring as part of a deliberate design."

Urging the collectors of border districts to take appropriate action to remove illegal religious encroachments, the Home Minister stressed that all illegal encroachments within at least a 30-kilometer radius from the border should be removed.
